The Norfolk Historical Society and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 79 Simcoe are proud to announce the launch of the 2027 Simcoe Veterans Banner Program, a community initiative dedicated to honouring and remembering local veterans through a public display of commemorative street banners.

The program will create a living streetscape of remembrance, featuring double-sided outdoor banners displaying the image, name, and service information of local veterans. Installed annually during the Period of Remembrance, the banners will serve as a visible tribute to the men and women from the Simcoe area who served Canada. They will be displayed along Norfolk Street North, forming a pathway of remembrance that begins at the Norfolk War Memorial, Carillon Tower.

The Simcoe Veterans Banner Program (SVBP) is open to applications recognizing veterans who:

· Grew up, lived in, or had a significant connection to Simcoe and the surrounding area: and

· Are deceased.

Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to approval by the Simcoe Veterans Banner Program Committee.

The cost to sponsor a banner is $325, which covers production of a durable, double-sided outdoor banner designed for annual display and reuse along with related mounting costs.

As a joint initiative of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 79 Simcoe and the Norfolk Historical Society, the SVBP Committee will contribute historical and archival expertise to help preserve and verify veterans' stories while providing administrative support along with its long-standing commitment to supporting veterans and promoting remembrance throughout the community.
